Why do you need a life coach?

The benefits of CPM Coaching are the same as traditional life coaching, namely:

  • Creating personal and professional growth plans
  • Setting goals and having a vision of success
  • Obtaining work-life balance
  • Identifying weaknesses to be addressed.
  • Improve relationships and communication skills
  • Successful deal with life transitions.

However, traditional life coaching focuses on behaviour, whereas CPM coaching focuses on principles. Over a period of 18 years [2003-2022] and 18,000 hours of development, CPM has become a seven-level matrix of 49 principles. The theory is, that all limiting beliefs which prevent a person for achieving their goals, are due to weakened principles in the right brain [subconscious mind] and that these precede behaviour. Changes to beliefs and habits occur much quicker working on principles than on behaviour.

What is the CPM coaching process?

CPM works on the four brains to initiate change. A person has needs in the seven areas of their life, namely:

  • Spiritual
  • Physical health
  • Emotional and mental health
  • Financial security
  • Work
  • Family relationships
  • Community

If a person were perfect then they would be successful in every area of life at the 3 major levels, namely, Meaning, Attachment and Control. Eg At work, they would follow the 4 guiding principles. They would trust and respect themselves and feel in Control, they would Accept and Commit to the work and find Attachment and they would have hope and find Meaning in their work.

The client identifies the need/s to be worked on and the CPM coach identifies where the particular need/s are in the matrix:

  • Level 7 Spiritual Principles [Spirit Brain -Meaning]
  • Level 6 Intellectual Principles [Head Brain -Meaning]
  • Level 5 Relationship Principles [Heart Brain-Attachment]
  • Level 4 Influencing Principles [Gut Brain- Positive Control]
  • Level 3 Negative Principles [Gut Brain- Negative Control]
  • Level 2 False Positives [Dysfunction Control, eg. Addictions]
  • Level 1 Negative Concerns [Dysfunctional Control er. Depression]

CPM coaching does not apply to levels 1 and 2, that is a Cognitive Principle Therapy [CPT] application.

Modern life coaching has a strong counselling-psychological basis because of the need to integrate the four brains, namely, the head, the heart, the gut and the spirit brains. Overcoming limiting beliefs requires and understanding of how negative triggers can result in subconscious pattern matches and activate past negative thoughts, emotions and bad habits, causing the body to down regulate to fight, flight or freeze. The resultant anger, anxiety or avoidance prevent the achievement of the needs mentioned above.  Understanding why your bad habits were formed and how to fix them with simple techniques is part of CPM Coaching.

What is CPM Coaching?

  • Helps the client re-align their balance between the seven areas of life and to grow each of those areas.
  • Helps the client understand their innate need to grow or develop and provides a seven level hierarchy to achieve that growth.
  • Helps the client understand there is balance between left and right brain, and that Western societies have overused the left brain and lost connection with each other and the environment.
  • The principles or values proceed behaviour and the quickest way to make a change in life is to understand and strengthen principles.

Cognitive Principle Matrix

  • In 2003 I started developing a therapy called Principle Therapy [PT], based on a simple matrix.
  • The original matrix in 2003 was based on Stephen Covey’s classic 1989 book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. His premise was that there was a conflict between a persons’ “Character Ethic” and their “Personality Ethic”. I renamed these terms “Principle Thinking” and “Comparative Thinking” and started to create a matrix call the Principle Matrix.
  • Tested the principles by starting and operating a new business between 2005-2008, Global Ears limited.
  • Between 2003 and 2017 the Principle therapy became Cognitive Principle Therapy and the matrix became the Cognitive Principle Matrix. During that period the CPM developed into a hierarchy of principles based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and comprised 5 levels, 7 rules and 35 principles.
  • In 2018 the model changed substantially based on the release of two books, namely, Stephen Porges’ “Clinical Applications of the Polyvagal Theory” and Christian Krommes’ “Humification”. The CPM went from a 5 level model to a 7 level model. There are now 7 levels, 7 rules, 49 principles.
  • Between 2018 and 2021 changes were made to the matrix to include ideas from Lisa Feldman’s 2017 book “How Emotions are made” and Iain McGilchrists’ 2011 book “The Master and his Emissary-The Divided brain.” and Daniel Kahneman’s 2011 book “Thinking Fast and Slow”
  • The 2022 version of the CPM includes all the changes between 2018 -2021, but more importantly, inclusions from the release of Iain McGilchrists’ book [November, 2021] “The Matter with Things” and Anil Seth’s 2021 book “Being You”

How does it work

CPM Coaching uses the Matrix and follows three steps.
1

Step One

Understands the goal to be achieved and helps the client create a right brain creative solution to that goal, using the default mode network.

2

Step Two

Works with the client to evaluate and create a left brain analysis of the idea created in Step One.

3

Step Three

Uses the clients right brains’ intuition to refine or reject the left brain solution, then implement the solution.
